SORBA Woodstock Honors Matt Ligon as Volunteer of the year

At the Cherokee County Park and Recreation's Volunteer of the Year banquet held on January 18th, SORBA Woodstock proudly recognized Walter Madison "Matt" Ligon as the Volunteer of the Year. His dedication and service to our local trails and community have been exceptional.

Underlining Matt's contributions, the recognition stated: "Walter Madison Ligon (Matt) is an exceptional volunteer. He is always thinking about the well-being of both our trails and our local community. He demonstrates a selfless commitment and has worked quietly for years, doing what must be done and often doing it when no one else can or would. It is high time that he receives some much-deserved recognition."

Matt's role has been instrumental in the maintenance and improvement of our trail networks. His work, often behind the scenes, includes crucial tasks like inspecting and repairing bridges, ensuring proper drainage to prevent erosion, and responding to immediate needs such as securing the trails during adverse weather conditions.

Beyond these responsibilities, Matt has also been a pillar of support for the community, assisting injured members and addressing vandalism. His willingness to always say "yes" to the needs of the trails and the community, while seeking no recognition, is a testament to his character.

As Matt enters retirement, SORBA Woodstock extends heartfelt thanks for his selfless service and looks forward to his continued involvement with our trails.
